Fifty years ago today, Mickey Mantle once again just barely misses becoming the first player to hit a home run out of Yankee Stadium. The monstrous walk-off blast off A’s hurler Bill Fischer, which gives the Yankees a 8-7 victory, hits just a few feet below the decorative facade down the right-field line. (nationalpastime.com)

on this day in 1967 Keeping a promise to his wife Merlyn, Mickey Mantle hit his 500th career home run on Mother’s Day, a shot into the lower deck into the right field corner of the lower deck at Yankee Stadium. The ‘Commerce Comet’ , now the sixth big leaguer to reach the milestone, hits the historic homer off Stu Miller helping New York defeat the Orioles, 6-5.

Now that the first month of Major League Baseball is behind us does anyone, but me think that having interleague games everyday just isn’t the same. I believe it’s just a matter of time before all the teams are realigned into, MLB North, South, Central and West, 8 teams each division…

The media, the web is all ablaze about A-Rod and PED. I say lets wait until we know who did         what before we pass judgement. It’s how I would want to be treated.

Blank ballots, sent and signed by nine writers wanting to emphasize the need for very exclusive selections, denies Jim Bunning entrance to Cooperstown as he receives less than the 75 percent needed for induction due to the votes which are counted, but do not name any players. I’m old school but one thing that’s never. never upset me is wheher a player did or did not take something. Time for the BBWAA to retire and turn the voting over to the players…
